Rhythmic, tool-based exfoliation without added product
Dry brushing is a form of mechanical exfoliation performed on dry skin using natural-bristle brushes.
At Amber Sea Holistics, it is not carried out as one fixed routine. Brush firmness, pressure, direction and pace are adapted to the condition of the skin, the area being treated and the individual client.
What makes Dry Brushing different?
Unlike scrubs or peels, Dry Brushing does not require an exfoliating product.
The bristles work directly over the surface of the skin, helping to loosen and remove dry surface cells while creating a distinctive tactile stimulation.
Different areas of the body tolerate different levels of pressure, so the treatment may move from softer brushes to firmer ones depending on the skin and the purpose of the session.
Temporary warmth or mild flushing can occur because of the mechanical friction created by brushing. ASH does not present Dry Brushing as a method of “detoxification” or as treatment for lymphatic or circulatory disorders.
How the treatment is performed
Brushing is carried out in long, deliberate strokes, generally following the direction traditionally used in lymphatic-style bodywork.
The aim is not aggressive scrubbing. Pressure is adjusted continuously so that the treatment remains stimulating without unnecessarily irritating the skin.
Particular care is taken over thinner, more sensitive or easily irritated areas.
After brushing
Once exfoliation is complete, the skin is finished with a botanical oil blend prepared for the individual client.
The choice of oils may take into account factors such as skin condition, age, sensitivity, season, treatment area, relevant medical history and personal preferences.
There is no standard aftercare oil used for everyone.
The experience
Dry Brushing is a more active and stimulating form of exfoliation than many wet scrubs.
The skin commonly feels smoother afterwards and may feel warm or lightly invigorated immediately following treatment.
The intensity is always adapted to the individual — effective exfoliation does not require harsh brushing.
Before booking
Dry Brushing is only performed when the skin is suitable for mechanical exfoliation.
I do not perform Dry Brushing on skin that is thin, fragile, highly sensitive, poorly conditioned, irritated or otherwise likely to be damaged by brushing.
If the skin does not feel resilient enough for this treatment, another method will be recommended instead. Dry Brushing may be reconsidered later if the condition of the skin improves.
It is also not performed over broken skin, active infection or inflammation, recent sunburn, or areas recovering from surgery or injury.
For Dry Brushing, skin safety comes first. Suitability is assessed before treatment, and the final decision on whether the treatment can be performed rests with the practitioner.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is approached cautiously.
Please let me know before booking if you are pregnant. Depending on the stage of pregnancy, the area being treated and your individual circumstances, I may recommend adapting or postponing the treatment or discussing it with your healthcare professional.
Where treatment can be performed safely, the final decision remains at the client’s own discretion.
